UK Town to Offer Free Wi-Fi

A chief Wiltshire town is going to become the first free Wi-Fi town in UK very soon. The municipality will offer free civic wireless internet connectivity to all the dwellers, as proclaimed by some news sources. The plan named as Swindon Borough Council Plan will ensure all the 186,000 citizens to have Wi-Fi Mesh coverage by next year.

The Council Authority made it pretty clear that there will br no charges for this Wi-Fi network and the line rental will be free too. Those who will subscribe to the service will be termed as Signal and they will have restricted access to the network and for 20MB updates they need to pay a certain amount of cash. But this charge will be considerably lower than existing broadband suppliers as the authorities have proclaimed.

The one million pound project is going to be launched by Digital City UK Ltd. Of which Swindon Borough Council has a 35% share. There will be near about 1400 secured Wi-Fi access points in and around Swindon. These access points will have a resemblance with Home Wi-Fi networks but will be much superior in range and quality.

If this goes all right, all the other city councils are going to adopt the innovation. Swindon Municipality is all optimistic about the plan launched. The pioneers should boast this way. They should. The service will also include free VOIP calls and remote medical discussion. Not only that, Antivirus software and other essential services will also be offered.

The first UK county is now making merry at this public Wi-Fi launch.

AT&T introduces Windows 7 Netbooks

AT&T has launched two new Netbooks that run Windows 7 and have mobile broadband. The company declared only this Monday that they are bringing out two new cards from their sleeve namely Samsung Go and Acer Aspire One. These two Netbooks are accessible to 3G Wi-Finetwork. These products are going to available in late November in retail stores as well as online.

200 MB data is going to be offered at as low as $35 per month and if you go for 5GB data connect plan, it will cost you $60 only. With the help of this data connect plan, consumers can journey online via 3G network to company’s 20000 Wi-Fi hotspots across the country.

Demand for Netbooks is going higher day by day especially among small industries. For those who prefer mobility as the most important feature of a device, these gadgets are of a different stature. And as these Netbooks come up with inbuilt Windows 7 and Wi-Fi 3G, it’s hard to resist from buying one. Surely, these devices are gonna be very nice-looking and reasonable gifts for many this festive season.

Samsung Go weighs less than 3lbs and features a 10-inch screen, 160 GB hard Drive with 1 GB of RAM. Acer Aspire One is thinner comes with same features as the Samsung product.

AT&T Communication Manager Software is installed in both the Netbooks which will enable users to connect speedier with AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots. But a small demerit that these two devices have is they both are ingrained with Windows 7 Starter Edition which is not gonna be a very good news for professionals.

Few More Types of Networks

Yesterday I discussed about LAN, WAN and WLAN. These are three major types of networks that are generally used. But there are a few more types of network that are used for specific regions. These are MAN, CAN and SAN. Lets take an overview of these three types:

MAN-Metropolitan Area Network

This kind of network is not used for general purpose but it is very important for some administrative bodies and larger organizations that have a wide area of working and have a huge number of members. Metropolitan Area Network is the blend of Local Area Network and Wide Area Network. In fact, it falls in between. It covers vast geographical area but is not as big as WAN.

CAN-Campus Area Network

This sort network is meant for educational institutions where online classes and tuitions are held very often. It consists of several LANs but is smaller than a MAN. This kind of network is used at most in very large universities or local business houses and houses.

SAN-Storage Area Network (1)

This network is widely used for data storage and has its importance for data oriented organizations. This type of network helps connect servers to data storage gadgets and it works with the help of Fiber Channel Technology

SAN-System Area Network (2)

System Area Network is also abbreviated as SAN. This type of network is popularly known as Cluster Area Network and it connects supercomputers with high velocity connections through configuration of cluster.
