How to Get Rid of Computer Lock-up Problem

What if you are middle of your important task and your PC keeps mum? It’s a common problem among many of us. It’s a computer lock-up.

But what is it?
A lock-up is, as the name entails, a dead-stop situation of the computer. You try to move the cursor but the mouse does not work. You try to type or give a command to your PC, but it does not respond. Even you resort to the Task Manager but that also fails. What do you do? If I guess right, you just switch off your PC and get it restarted. But there are some common problems that lie behind this occurrence of lock-up. Let’s chalk out these reasons.

What are the reasons?

There are plenty of reasons for a lock-up, but the familiar ones are: Windows 95/98 volatility, PC running out of memory, incompatibility of software and virus infectivity. They can be put in order to have a brief idea as well as find the way out.

User Settings:

When you are about to install Windows, your personal settings are built up for a user log in. this setting consists of Windows security and registry and network connections. The whole course of action takes a toll on your computer and as a result the computer gets bogged down.
If this happens, simply check the available disk space of your PC as this is required for fragmentation. Check out the network connectivity to make sure that you can reinstate it later. In a domain based setting, your computer’s connectivity creates a problem. As your PC gets connected to the domain host, the problem occurs.

Blue Screen of Death
When your PC is literally out of order, you might face a blue screen with eerie figures. Actually, most lock-ups fall to this category. It indicates that you have installed a substandard device driver, provided your computer is not virus-affected.
If this happens, boot your PC in safe mode. Doing this will relinquish many of your computer’s working systems. The problem might be hiding behind these systems. After your PC is set in safe mode, you can use system-file checker, antivirus etc.
Sometimes the safe mode does not get into action. In that case, use the PC’s Recovery Console. Install it along with Windows.

Lock-up Before the Appearance of Windows Logo

It happens that nothing comes on the screen after the PC is on.
If this happens, you need recovery console that you will find on the installation CD.
It will enable you to copy the files and restart the installation process. In this way, you can also repair the master boot record.

Defective Operating System

You can get worried as you do not find the Operating System on your system. It involves that the hard disk of your PC has lost it.
If this happens, go to your taskbar and click on ‘Start’ and follow these steps:
• Go to ‘Settings’>’Control Panel’
• Click ‘Control Panel’>’System’
• Click on ‘Performance’
• Click on ‘Graphics’
• Move the ‘Hardware Acceleration’ slider to the left
• Click ‘OK’ to exit
• Restart your PC.

Install Windows Vista or Windows 7 from a USB drive on your Netbook

The users who do not have the optical drives in their netbooks need not to worry about a fresh installation of Windows Vista or Windows 7 on their machine. You can now do it following some simple and easy steps. All they need is a 4GB or larger USB drive. You have to keep in mind that all computers do not hold up booting from a USB device; hence your computer should be compatible with that kind of booting source. This option is found in the BIOS setting. Also check if your USB drive is bootable.

• Step 1: You will require a functioning computer which has Windows Vista/Windows 7, a Flash Drive of 4GB in size. And if you intend to use a 64-bit version, you may need an 8GB Flash Drive. If you have all these, then get down to the business. A little more to add, installing from USB drive is much quicker than that from a DVD. Just place in the USB drive into a Windows Vista or Windows 7 computer and wait for it being detected.

• Step 2: Click on the Start button to go to the Search field to type cmd. You need not to press enter now. Just scroll down the menu that appears and right click on the ‘cmd.exe’ option. Choose ‘Run as Administrator’ and continue to the next step.

• Step 3: Now in the cmd, you are likely to find some significant information about the USB drive. Carry out the sequence of commands to adapt it to a Windows Vista or Windows 7 boot drive. Type DISKPART in the cmd and this will definitely implement the Vista or Windows 7 DISKPART utility.

• Step 4: Now just type the following commands. You will be provided with a list of disks available on your PC and select the one that is much like your Flash Drive. Now just type the following in cmd
LIST DISK >SELECT DISK >CLEAN >CREATE PRIMARY PARTITION >SELECT PARTITION >ACTIVATE >FORMAT FS=NTFS

• Step 5: If all the steps are done, close the command prompt.
